Investing in Office Parks
December 8 2000
The office park, the ubiquitous suburban campus of offices is coming of age. This particular property model is a direct response to the decline of urban centres in North America and Europe during the 1970s. Employers hoping to lure the best workers hit on the idea of offering a superior work environment - clean, safe and close to home. Hence, the surge in suburban office park development over the past 20 years.
But,the resurgence of inner cities in recent years, partly as a result of government efforts to encourage investment in blighted areas, poses new challenges for traditional office parks. The suburban office campus may no longer be the best mechanism to attract talent.
